Tarnopolsky said the infants in that group who were circumcised had lower-than-normal rates of urinary tract infection and a higher rate of ear infections. Doctors say the infections are most common cause of ear infections in the first year of life.
The new babies had an average of one and a half ear infections in the first year of life, compared with an average of two ear infections in the control group.
The ear infections often occurred at the time babies were changing from nurse to bottle feeder, which is an extremely early sign of ear infection that can often be prevented by breastfeeding.
The study was published in journal Pediatrics.
"The idea that this would give a buy clomid and tamoxifen benefit to their baby would be surprising," said Dr. David E. Berenson, a pediatric otolaryngologist at the University of California, Riverside and author "The Baby Book: Birth, Infancy and the First Year."

Berenson has reviewed the study, and said it raises new questions.
